What Does Your Lobby Say About Your Business?

Updated: May 15, 2018

Your lobby is crucial for leaving a good first and last impression for your guests. Does it feature comfortable and inviting lounge furniture? Does it offer a preview to what guests and potential employees will find inside of the office? These are important questions to consider when constructing or renovating your office’s lobby. Visitors and prospective employees will unfortunately judge your business based on your lobby’s appearance. Here are a few pointers for those looking to refresh their lobbies.

Your Lobby Seating Should Be Modern and Comfortable

If you don’t remember the last time you updated your lobby, than it is time to sell your used furniture and start with purchasing new furniture. The furniture in your lobby should be high quality so it will last for a long time. You will want to purchase furniture that features reversible cushions to reduce the wear and tear on your sofas and seats, which can double the lifespan of your lounge seating. You will also want to make sure that your seating is not cramped, especially in a healthcare setting where sick patients will be waiting to see a doctor. Chairs with cushioned armrests allow for patients to comfortable rest their arms while reading and provide a space barrier from neighbors.

Keep Guests Entertained

Since your guests might be in a reception area for a period of time, you will need to keep guests entertained. It’s a good idea to have some magazines or a television in your reception area to keep visitors busy while they wait for their name to be called. Incorporate some end tables to your lobby to host magazines or information about your services.

Use The Right Colors

The color choice of your lobby should depend on the type of work that you do. For law offices and healthcare offices, green or blue are calming colors that can promote a soothing area before visiting a lawyer or doctor. For other industries, you can try to incorporate subtle hints at your brand colors in certain areas of your lobby. You can also add your company logo to the wall to give your lobby a personalized touch.

Make Guests Feel Welcome

It’s a good idea to offer your guests and visitors something to drink while they wait for their appointment. Offering a water cooler, or coffee and tea is a great way to welcome your guests and make sure they are settled. Having your reception area set up in the middle of the room is also another way to make your lobby more welcoming and make it less confusing for guests to have their questions answered.
